April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Camp Greenville is honored to have become accredited last fall with Praesidium, a leading organization committed to helping other organizations prevent and protect against child abuse. The YMCA of Greenville is one of 10 Y’s nationwide and Camp Greenville is one of 6 Y resident camps nationwide to achieve this standard of accreditation.

The safety of campers is our primary goal. We continue to implement the best practices of preventing and raising awareness of child abuse. All camp staff complete a background check process before arriving to camp. Once they’ve arrived, all staff complete training on child abuse recognition and prevention. Our cabin and programs are set up to create safe spaces by having individual shower stalls and restrooms. All of our staff are mandated reporters, which means there are procedures in place for responding to and reporting suspected abuse.

YMCA Camp Greenville creates a safe space for campers to learn and grow. We intend to continue implementing policies and practices that raise awareness of and prevent child abuse.
