About & History
Constructed in 1941, Fred W. Symmes Chapel (aka, "Pretty Place") is one of the many sites that make up YMCA Camp Greenville. Gifted by Mr. Symmes to the boys and girls who camp here each summer, the chapel functions as the spiritual center of camp.
Several additions and improvements have been made to the structure over the years, including major upgrades in 2012, 2018, and again in 2025 following Hurricane Helene.

Visit
YMCA Camp Greenville welcomes visitors (at no charge) to enjoy the beauty of Pretty Place Chapel during daylight hours, except when it is in use during summer camp (May-August) or for another reserved event (weddings, dedications, memorial services, etc.).
Weekends are often booked ahead with weddings & other events. We strongly recommend checking the chapel schedule PRIOR to visiting to avoid conflicts with privately scheduled events.
Porta-potty-style bathrooms are available on-site.

Private Use Fees
Fees for private use of Pretty Place Chapel help to maintain the area, as well as support our ability to offer “camperships” (scholarships to help provide experiences for children who might otherwise not be able to enjoy a camp experience due to some type of hardship/lack of funds).
Donations are always welcome. Please visit our Donation page for more information regarding contributions.
