Global Youth Service Day

Global Youth Service Day (April 28-30) is the longest-running annual youth participation event in the world. It encourages youth, ages 5-25, to find meaning and purpose by volunteering and working together for the common good.

At Camp Greenville, teenagers in our Leadership Development Program (LDPs) give their time and efforts to volunteer at camp. They participate in service activities and other camp duties. For many of our LDPs, volunteering doesn’t only take place at summer camp. Many volunteer in their own communities as well.

One of our LDPs, Clara Crocker, serves as President of her school’s chapter of the Rotary International Interact Club. In her role she coordinates meetings and events that help students seek ways to serve and become leaders in their local community. Her chapter has participated in many greater Greenville community events such as volunteering at the Literacy in Haiti event, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and the Spring Sing Event. Clara shared that she volunteers because, “I am passionate about serving the community and putting smiles on other’s faces".

Clara Crocker volunteers with the Rotary International Interact Club.

Bee Drennan teaches local 4-H groups.

Another one of our LDPs making a difference in her local community is Bee Drennan. Bee is a volunteer with 4-H groups. She loves science and the outdoors and learned about those topics at a young age. She wants to give back, and uses her knowledge in these subjects to give presentations and teach school groups about local wildlife.

We encourage our LDPs to participate in Global Youth Service Day and seek volunteer opportunities in their home communities.
