YMCA Camp Greenville: A Fun and Impactful 10-Day Staff Training
As summer 2024 has arrived, YMCA Camp Greenville kicked off an exciting 10-day staff training program designed to prepare our incredible team for an unforgettable camp season. This year, we are thrilled to welcome a total of 100 summer staff, including 33 international staff members from 9 countries alongside our dedicated U.S. staff. Our team's diversity and enthusiasm promise to make this summer one of the best yet.
StaffCon 2024: A Unique Start to Training
The first three days of our training featured an event called StaffCon, where we transformed our usual orientation into a conference-style setup. StaffCon included keynote and breakout sessions, providing a dynamic environment for learning, bonding, and fun. Some of the standout topics covered during these sessions included:
Emergency Procedures: Ensuring the safety of all campers and staff is our top priority. This session focused on our emergency action procedures, equipping everyone with the knowledge to handle any situation calmly and effectively.
Camp Culture and Values: Understanding the core values and culture of Camp Greenville is essential for creating a cohesive and positive environment. This session emphasized our commitment to inclusivity, respect, and community.
Program Planning and Activity Development: Creativity and innovation are key to a successful camp experience. Staff learned how to design engaging and diverse activities that cater to all age groups and interests.
Fun and Fellowship: Building Strong Connections
Beyond the formal sessions, our staff enjoyed plenty of opportunities to bond and have fun. One of the highlights was a night out at the Caine-Halter YMCA, where everyone swam, played games, and enjoyed the facilities after hours. This event helped foster a sense of camaraderie and team spirit, essential for a cohesive camp environment.
Another memorable moment was the visit from Dolly's Trolly, an ice cream truck that brought sweet treats and smiles to everyone. These moments of joy and relaxation are vital for building strong connections among staff members.
Focus on Safety and Preparedness
Safety is paramount at Camp Greenville, and our training program included comprehensive sessions on emergency action procedures. Staff members participated in drills and exercises to ensure they are well-prepared to handle any situation, from medical emergencies to natural disasters.
