Program participants have been given the option to receive a refund of their program fees or to donate program fees to camp’s recovery efforts. Refunds and donations will not be fully processed until internet service is restored.

Saturday, September 28, 12pm Update
All weddings and events scheduled for Pretty Place Chapel for the remainder of 2024 are officially cancelled. Each reservation party has already received communication from our office regarding cancellation.

In the coming days we will begin contacting each reservation party to hopefully reschedule to a date in 2025 or provide a refund. Services, power and internet are extremely limited currently, so this communication will take time.

At this time, we do feel that repairs will be able to happen this fall/winter so, there are no changes for any events in 2025 currently.

We are extremely sorry to share this news and the impact it will make on so many families who planned to celebrate their special ceremonies here at Pretty Place Chapel. Our hearts are hurting, and we ask that you have patience with us as we navigate the future of rebuilding this beautiful place.

Friday, September 27, 5pm Update
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to check on the well-being of our staff. All camp staff and their families and pets are physically ok. Several homes are damaged.

Staff spent the afternoon walking the main areas of camp property for initial assessment of damages. This assessment is an extremely slow process for three reasons: 1) staff must travel on foot only - there are so many downed trees and powerlines that vehicles cannot be driven for any distance. 2) there is enough damage to our property and buildings that it is a slow process to document and photograph everything. 3) We do not have internet or cell signal at this time to compile information from various individuals and teams.

We know that so many people care so deeply for YMCA Camp Greenville and Pretty Place Chapel. Thank you for your patience as we continue to gather information to share with you.

Friday, September 27, 12:15pm Update
With staff safety as our first priority, we have not yet been able to fully assess the widespread damage on our property. Staff have been asked to remain in their homes until official assessment efforts begin. Therefore, at this time we only have damage reports in the immediate vicinities of our on-site homes. So far, we know that there are many large trees down blocking public roads, in-camp roads, and trails/pathways. There are also powerlines down in multiple places throughout the property, and significant damage to staff homes from fallen trees.

Full damage assessment will begin later this afternoon and continue into the evening, along with priority projects to make safe housing arrangements for our on-site staff. We expect recovery to be a long haul: there will be much to document and then begin prioritizing restoration projects.
